About This is the web page of Dr. John L Perkins, an economist, mathematical modeller, software developer part-time inventor and author. He has qualifications from universities in Melbourne and London, and is a member of the Humanist Society of Victoria, the Rationalist Society of Australia, the Australian Skeptics, is a Public Relations team member of the Atheist Foundation of Australia, and is the founding President of the Secular Party of Australia. It was mainly the events of September 11, 2001, that led him undertake research into comparative religions, their history, derivation, philosophy and their effects on society. He is convinced that the negative impacts of religion on human welfare, throughout history and today, far outweigh any benefits. He was a speaker at the Global Atheist Convention in Melbourne in March 2010. At the National Institute of Economic and Industry Research in Melbourne he is working on a multi-country global economic model for use in long term projections of fossil fuel emissions, resource depletion and climate change. "It is easier
to fool somone than to convince them they have been fooled" - Mark Twain..
Other pastimes include composing humanist songs, atheist songs, singing in the Atheist Choir running with the Lakeside Hash House Harriers (the drinking club with the running problem), the Melbourne New Moon HHH and the Nomads and Delinquents HHH. He has become a daily crossword puzzle solver (quick), and also the weekly Codewords puzzle, in The Age / SMH. (Admission: assisted by customised dictionary search if required). For those stuck on Codewords, hints are posted here every Saturday. More recently he
has taken up an interest in genealogy. See the Perkins
